On the road again!

Come tomorrow, we'll have only 4 short days left in Washington! I'm getting a new assignment in Northern California at Beale AFB.

We'll be very close to family, and we're excited about that. A little information about Beale (courtesy Wikipedia, and growing up nearby)...

  • Beale AFB was established in 1942 as Camp Beale and is named for Edward Fitzgerald Beale (1822–1893), an American Navy Lieutenant and a Brigadier General in the California Militia who was an explorer and frontiersman in California.
  • Beale is located outside of Linda- the Meth capital of Northern California, as well as rated #5 in the country for highest identity theft.
  • The base covers nearly 23,000 acres, and is home for approximately 4,000 military personnel. In comparison, JBLM here is 86,000 acres, and has more than 25,000 soldiers and civilian workers. Quite the difference!
  • My Job will be at the 9th Operations Group, in the 9th Operations Support Squadron.
  • Generally, there are more cows than people on base (the land is leased out to local cattle ranchers)

Fun! So, the cable/internet gets shut off on Wednesday (much to our dismay, as that is Game 1 of the Giants/Rangers World Series playoff! GO GIANTS!). The movers come Thursday, and I get on a plane Friday. VERY excited about getting my own semi-private sewing room! I'll have to share the space with Richard, seeing as he needs a place to paint his Flames of War miniatures, but I love having a space where I don't have to mess up the entire house sewing!!

Kinda bummed about moving this week, seeing as Confessions of a Fabric Addict is having an awesome giveaway, and it's always easier to comment on posts on the computer, rather than my phone. And remembering to check Blogs is much easier as well!! Everyone should go check it out!
